This sector is somewhat lagging in the target setting and reporting of climate action. Although some companies like The Warehouse have been reporting on various sustainability indicators for a number of years. This could be due to the difficulties in obtaining scope 3 data and having a strong reliance on other companies to complete accurate GHG emission inventories.

Some of the major retailers in Aotearoa New Zealand operate across Australia and NZ and have their head offices in Australia. In these companies it is difficult to separate the emission targets and action across the two countries. We hope that the initiatives are operating across both countries so that climate action is seen across their retails chains.
